this time of year is great for organization -- getting rid of the old and making way for the new.during the past 6+ months my ironing pile in our little laundry room has grown out-of-control. in july when my mother saw it, she was surprised and commented at my disorganization (as in, i use to be so organized?). this past month when my mother-in-law visited, she used our laundry room, therefore i know she saw it and probably was amazed at the stack of clothing up to the window. it really was a disgrace.
i was going to take a before and after photo, but couldn't break my concentration on this HUGE task. so, i began to iron. and iron, and iron, and iron. i cannot tell you how many late night hours i spent ironing the articles that clothe our 5 bodies. plus some tablecloths. a few cloth napkins. many runners. and lots and lots of button-down shirts for my husband. my guess is that i spent 12+ hours on ironing. now i really didn't want to "waste" daylight time doing this, so most of it was done by the light of the moon. while watching ridiculous movies, annoying news channels, and a few good musical numbers.
my husband now has ironed items in his closet that he has not seen in 2-3 years. i'm not kidding.
i truly went clothes shopping in my own closet too. i have found some great "new" articles that look brand new. oh, two that are brand new. isn't that exciting? i know i am thrilled. my husband is delighted (a little too much so). he said that this ironing project saved him a fortune. however, i did have to buy more hangers. and we really do need a bigger closet. hmmmmm...now that will really cost him.
but there is nothing like wearing a freshly ironed (and starched) shirt OR laying out a lovely tablecloth on a sunday afternoon OR having all of our church clothing pressed and ready to go for the next, ummm, six weeks. nothing like it. awesome.
now, if i can just keep up on this daunting task.
or teach my two growing girls the power of ironing...
and yes, i was so excited to tell my mom! i think she was in disbelief.
