girl talk

"The best thing about having a sister was that I always had a friend."--Cali Rae Turner

for the most part, ella & sophia enjoy their time together. they play best after a good nap and can spend a few fun hours together before life begins to unravel. time outside is particularly golden. set them up with some drinks, snacks, and sunshine and they are H-A-P-P-Y!

"If sisters were free to express how they really feel, parents would hear this: 'Give me all the attention and all the toys and send Rebecca to live with Grandma.'"--Linda Sunshine ("Mom Loves me Best" (And Other Lies You Told Your Sister))

ELLA SPEAKING TO SOPHIA:
**watching 101 dalmations while sophia plays nearby: "oh dear, the puppies are gone. the mom and dad puppies are looking for their babies. they better find their babies before they get sad" [sophia is not interested in movies, but ella will tell her what is happening. sophia will say, "uh-ohhhh" or "yah, yah."]

**hugging our furry black kitty, irie, and saying "ohhhh, i-i. hello i-i. do you want love? sister, give i-i love." and usually sophia will stop what she is doing to give irie some attention.

**hearing the garbage truck: "oh dear, some one's here. pa-per, let's see who is here" [for some reason ella loves to call her sister pa-per. we just go with it.]

**correcting her sister: "your shoes don't match. here, let me help you." sophia sits on her bottom, allowing her sister to correct the shoe problem. "okay, now you can go."

**instructing her sister on princess things: "this is a princess crown. this is a jewelry necklace. you put it on your neck. this is a skirt that matches these shoes. here, put this on. you can be a ballerina princess if you wear this dress." during the entire conversation, sophia says, "yah, yah, yah." [i'm not sure if she was really listening to ella. it appeared that she was more interested in the baby doll she was holding and loving.]

**after the prayer (which ella usually offers), we will ask sophia, "what do we say." she usually says a-munnnnnnnnn in a grunting kind of way. ella will correct her: "that's not how we say it pa-per! say amen!"

**"you're too little to go to gymnastics. you have to be big like me. can you do a somersault so-so?" yes, sophia can do a somersault quite well.

poor little girl -- having a big sister can be hard sometimes! now i know how my sister must have felt: "Big sisters are the crab grass in the lawn of life."--Charles Schulz (in "Peanuts" 1952).

I THINK I BETTER GIVE MY SISTER A CALL TODAY. BECAUSE I REALLY DO LOVE HER AND MISS HER. AND -- I PROBABLY OWE HER TOO!

{our neighbor, kathy, made these adorable little dresses -- both girls and their mommy love them! thank you kathy!}
